Rare Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse to Appear in the Middle Ramadan 2025

In Ramadan 2025, there will be two eclipses: Both a lunar and a solar eclipse will occur within a stretch of 14 days. According to CNN, this is one of the rarest astronomical alignments that can be spotted during the holy month of the Islamic calendar.

Two Eclipses in One Month

The first celestial event of great importance would be a total lunar eclipse or Blood Moon, which will take place on the 13th or 14th of Ramadan 1446 H, March 13-14, 2025.

After this, another partial solar eclipse will be observed on the 28th or 29th of Ramadan 1446 H which will be March 29, 2025. This dual eclipse in one day during one Ramadan is a rare rare astronomical sight that has both a special shari and a scientific value.

14th September 2015 is Total Lunar Eclipse on Islamic date of 13th Ramadan 1446 H.

The first eclipse of 2025 will occur on March 13-14, that is a total lunar eclipse, and will take place on the 13th or 14th day of Ramadan. The eclipse will be totally visible for the first time from every inch of Earth after November 2022.

Total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes in between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the latter which makes the Moon appear a deep redish hue, hence called a ‘Blood moon’.

Visibility of the Lunar Eclipse

Observers in North and South America, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile will have a chance to witness the total lunar eclipse.

Only partial visibility of the eclipse will be available in Europe, including the UK, France, Spain and Germany, because the Moon will set during the eclipse. In North Africa meanwhile, in Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, or Tunisia, viewers will be able to see the early phases of the eclipse before moonset.

Because of its location, the Moon will set before totality occurs for many of its residents including most Arab nations like the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, India, and most of its neighbor countries in Asia. In these regions they will see only the initial partial eclipse before moonset.

Partial Solar Eclipse on 28th-29th Ramadan 1446 H

The second astronomical celestial event is a partial solar eclipse on March 29, 2025; on the 28th or 29th of Ramadan.

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth and partially or completely covers the Sun. The particular eclipse will be viewed in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. It will also be a good opportunity for Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.

Ramadan and Astronomical Alignment

In 2025, Ramadan is to start on either March 1st or March 2nd depending on that sighting of the crescent moon on February 28th. Whatever the exact date is, it will be an one of quite spectacular celestial significance.

Islamic Perspective on Eclipses

Solar and lunar eclipses are seen in the Islamic tradition as signs of divine power. The superstitions regarding eclipses, however, were rejected by the Prophet Muhammad, but he encouraged Muslims to make prayers during these events.

Salat al-Khusuf is the special prayer to the lunar eclipse and Salat al-Kusuf is the prayer to the solar eclipse. Both are sometimes collectively called Salat al-Kusuf. This will give worshippers a unique chance to pray these things during Ramadan 2025.

Historical Context of Multiple Eclipses

Although two eclipses in Ramadan are very rare, two eclipses in a single month is also rare. It was the last time in October 2023.

They are even rarer when three eclipses happen within a month. In fact, this has only occurred in a handful of years, 2000, 2011, and 2018. It is predicted that there will be the next such occurrences in 2029, 2036 and 2047.

A Momentous Ramadan for Worshippers and Astronomers

Its a rare and mesmerizing celestial alignment, which coincides with an astronomical opportunity and at the same time a spiritual springboard of Ramadan 2025, where Moon and Earth will block the sunlight directly in between them and with viewers on Earth as the curtain is pulled off the scene. For millions of Muslims across the globe who are participating in fasting and prayer at this time, they will also be able to see one of the most extraordinary astronomical events in recent history.
