Ruet-e-Hilal Committeeto Meet in Peshawar on Feb 28 for RamadanMoon Sighting
Somewhat in line with that, the federal government has decided to call the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the moon to begin Ramadan in Peshawar so that the month may be started simultaneously across the country.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs said the meeting for determining the beginning of Ramadan 1446 Hijri will be brought on February 28, 2025. The session will be chaired by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
The central body will also take the final decision of the moon sighting while zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will conduct their own meetings in respective regions. Once bidding formally commences at the Confédération Suisse tomorrow, the requisite arrangements for the event would be made by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Thankfully, Pakistan has a history of discrepancies when it comes to moon sighting and hence, the gaps in dating of Ramadan and Eid, especially between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country. The government wants to have the central committee meeting in Peshawar in order to ensure that consensus is reached among the religious scholars so that there could be all across the country synchronized observance of the holy month.
Along with that Lahore is all set to launch 10 model bazaars in the city before this Ramadan. According to Express News, these markets strive to offer the quality commodity at reduced rates to citizens during the holy month under the supervision of district administration.
The arrangements pertaining to these Ramadan bazaars have been finalized in a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore, Syed Musa Raza. The 10 bazaars would have 10 shops each out of which seven would be for selling fruits, vegetables, pulses, spices and similar essentials while the remaining three for meat produce.
Accessibility shall be ensured by setting apart a counter for women, senior citizens and regular customers. This is expected to enhance the buying convenience, assuring all can buy essential items easily and comfortably during Ramadan.
