5.6-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A powerful earthquake exceeded 5.6 on the Richter scale shook different regions of Pakistan during Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. This significant seismic activity provoked extensive alarm throughout the nation.

The earthquake shook the major cities of Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Swabi, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Chitral, Abbottabad, and Battagram. People living in earthquake zones experienced sudden awakening at 4:13 AM before they ran outside their homes because of their fear.

Evidence from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) indicates the temblor originated from Hindu Kush mountain region in Afghanistan where Kulfgan lay 108 kilometers east. The external force of the earthquake reached 69 kilometers in depth.

The earthquake caused tremors which spread from Pakistan into Afghanistan up to Nuristan province before affecting areas in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

People reacted to the abrupt seismic movement by becoming more worried while uttering prayers while occupying outdoor areas for safety. Evidence shows that the powerful earthquake resulted in neither human injuries nor any damage to properties.

Emergency response teams together with disaster management services continue their preparedness to respond rapidly in case multiple earthquakes strike again. Facilities under relevant departments have received instructions to remain prepared for emergencies and to perform risk evaluation procedures.

The earthquake took place shortly after the 5.2 magnitude tremor on March 27th and affected Islamabad together with northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces which included Chitral Shangla and Swat districts from the Afghanistan-Tajikistan frontier at 198 kilometers deep. No damage was reported after that significant earthquake event occurred.

Monitoring teams work actively to track seismic events because officials warn citizens about the need for safety preparations.
