Rawalpindi Ring Road Project Nears 50% Completion, On Track for December 2025 Deadline
The Rawalpindi Development Authority informs that 50% of Rawalpindi Ring Road project construction work is now finished. The Chief Minister of Punjab ordered workers to accelerate construction efforts to finish the project by December 2025.
Under PC-1 changes the Rawalpindi Development Authority Project Management Unit supervises the Rs33 billion project which ECNEC approved. FWO undertakes all construction duties of the project.
Key Features of the Ring Road
The Rawalpindi Ring Road runs 38.3 km long between Baanth Mor at Rawat GT Road and Thalian Motorway Interchange. The road’s main purpose is to distribute traffic away from Rawalpindi City while preparing the area for better infrastructure development.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road has the following main construction elements:
5 interchanges at Baanth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and Thalian
2 river bridges
7 stormwater bridges
1 railway bridge
11 overpasses and 10 underpasses
53 culverts
Economic Potential and Pending Decisions
The local business communities and trade institutions including Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry strongly recommend creating economic zones alongside Ring Road. Decision-makers have not finalized the establishment of economic zones even though strong business groups urge for them to be set up.
The announcement of economic zones in this area would empower local industry growth and attract overseas investors to boost the Ring Road’s total market value.
A Solution to Traffic and Environmental Challenges
People consider the Rawalpindi Ring Road a major gap in the road networking of this area. The growing traffic jams on GT Road and city streets helps the RRR act as a valuable alternative route particularly for heavy vehicles.
The project will serve as a different road path to produce these benefits.
Alleviate congestion in urban areas
Reduce road accidents
Reducing vehicle exhaust releases would make the air cleaner throughout the area
Our plan provides a clear way for vehicles to pass between Rawalpindi and Islamabad without interruptions.
Project Oversight and Progress
Kinza Murtaza leads the RDA team who reported that they received approval for the updated PC-1 while funds exist for the project and daily progress tracking takes place.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road stands ready to alter regional mobility and city improvement as key construction tasks proceed with good results.
