Pakistan’s long range rifle team clinches double gold in South Africa, making history

The Long Range Rifle Team representing Pakistan became history makers by winning two gold medals at the 2025 South Africa F-Class National Long Range Championship on the global shooting scene. The shooting world experienced surprise when Pakistan’s team achieved victory against the home nation which held the top world ranking during its home tournament.

The team achieved outstanding results at the tournament by winning two of its most important events. In the Vice President Team Match the team scored 1168/1200 before achieving an even higher success in the Chairman’s Team Cup with 1174/1200.

A winning contingent from the team consisted of Lieutenant General Ahsan together with Asad Waheed and Ubaid Ibrahim and Huzaifa Gul and Junaid Waqas and Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Ali and Sepoy Waleed. The Pakistani team’s success in long-range shooting events relied heavily on wind coaching expertise from Hennie Gerber and Julius Hartman who taught the team perfection in every shooting aspect.

Pakistan scored 11 individual medals during the contest with 5 gold and 3 silver and 3 bronze victories among them. The top medal recipient of the competition turned out to be Lt. Col. Junaid Ali who brought home three gold medals along with two silvers and two bronzes in different events.

The international success of Pakistan in long-range rifle shooting became evident when Sepoy Waleed won gold in the Scottish Sword Match and Asad Waheed earned a gold medal in the Jack Michley Match.

The team from Pakistan started their international participation at the 2023 F-Class World Championship with a fifth-place finish that has sparked rapid growth for the squad. The team has established its worldwide standing through victories in the European FTR Teams Championship and achieving numerous championship records.

Success of the team resulted from an exhaustive selection method coupled with extensive training under strong support from the Army Chief. Pakistan’s rifle competitors have demonstrated their strength as a competitive force after recent triumphs that show their rise toward global domination has started.
