Pakistan’s trade deficitexpands as exports drop 17.35%

Unfortunately, the export rate in Pakistan is declined by 17.35% in February 2025 and due to importation of many product the trade deficit also increased according to the report of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Over all the total exports of the country has slightly dropped to $2.43 billion in February from $2.95 billion recorded in January 2025. However, the imports came down by 9.89 percent and reached $4.73 bn last month only.

Still, the export declined in the January 2025 and reached below $3.5 billion, however, the export growth during July 2024 to January 2025 indicated a 8.17% growth of export crossing $22 billion of export in the seven months period. While exports increased by 10%, and amounted to $43.7 billion, imports grew even more sharply, by 7.4%, and reached 37.8 billion, thus, according to the balance of foreign trade, the US faced a deficit of 15.78 billion.

Trade Deficit Trends & Economic Outlook

While the country’s trade deficit for February 2025 slightly fell to 0.35% less than the previous month, the overall trade gap was higher by 6.33% in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.

However, the recent export rate was lower by 5.57% compared to what was recorded in February 2024,information that was impacted by factors such as low demand in the foreign markets, changes in the overall market and internal problems affecting the country’s economy.

Inflation at a Historic Low in February 2025

However, in this year February 2025, the inflation rate in the Pakistan has declined to 1.52% down by 0.83% that is in the government target band of 2%- to 3% for single year. it is also at its lowest level presently after the nine years.

These were measured at 1.8 % for urban areas, and 1.1 % for rural areas as evidenced by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. In particular, the average level of inflation with reference to July 2024 – February 2025 made up 5.85%.

It also details a number of other areas in which there has been a substantial decrease in prices of some basic goods such as:

✅ Onions: -32%

✅ Potatoes: -20%

✅ Vegetables: -17%

✅ Eggs: -14%

✅ Daal Channa & Tea: -10%

✅ Gram Flour: -9%

✅ Wheat: -3%

✅ Daal Maash: -2.82%

✅ Flour: -2.23%

At the same time, the prices for chicken, lentils, fish, dairy products, fuel, transport, constructions materials, electricity as well as stationeries reduced the burden on the households financially.
